African Sulcata / Leopard Tortiose Quick Care

hatchling

Here is a quick rundown on African Tortiose Care..

Heat and Lighting:
Your tortiose will need a basking spot of around 95 F and a cool side of 75-80oF you will also need a UVB source, we recommend Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 within 16-18 inches from your tortiose.

Diet:
Food is an important factor in healthy growth, and your new tortiose is a eating machine! They do require a special High fiber Low protein Diet!
The bulk of their overall intake should be from flake hay (timothy, alfalfa, orchard grass, etc), grass cuttings, cheat grass, clover, edible flowers (nasturtium, geraniums, hibiscus, rose petals and shrubs), Opuntia cactus and flowers.
You should try to avoid:
Fruits, chard, spinach, broccoli, cabbages, cauliflower, green beans or beans of any kind, corn, sprouts of any kind, tomatoes, or any high sugar, high protein vegetable.

Water:
Soak your tortiose in shallow water twice a week for about 15 minutes.

Enclosure:
House your hatchling indoors with supervised outdoor sunshine time. But eventually you will need a safe out door set up with appropriate housing in the winter.
Please keep this in mind before you choose to purchase your tiny cute tortiose, it will get rather large!
